A recent technology report concluded that Agile and DevOps offer more benefits when paired together compared to when implemented individually. This makes sense considering DevOps grew out of a need for better organizational structure for Agile projects. This article looks at the report details to find actionable insights relevant to software engineering organizations.
CA Technologies commissioned a study by Coleman Parkes Research to ask technology executives how Agile and DevOps are transforming their operations. The study found that 81% of executives believe Agile and DevOps are vital for their operational evolution. Over 80% of organizations use either Agile or DevOps, but only one-third felt either methodology was sufficiently implemented.
Companies successfully implementing both Agile and DevOps see numerous benefits. Advanced Agile users make important decisions sooner, and experienced DevOps enterprises implement ideas 42% faster. Adding DevOps to Agile increases business growth by 63% and improves operational efficiency by 41%. Leading factors preventing full implementation include security issues, budgetary concerns, lack of integration tools, and resistance to change.
Agile offers benefits beyond IT departments, with some companies using Agile in marketing, customer service, and sales. Only 6% have implemented Agile across their entire enterprise. Angela Tucci, CA Technologies’ general manager for Agile management, noted that combining Agile and DevOps leads to happier, more productive employees and satisfied customers.
